The Purpose of Tuscola Homeless Coalition

The Tuscola Homeless Coalition, whose purpose is to coordinate resources to serve individuals
and families who are homeless, near homeless and those in danger of homelessness, is a
faith-based effort to bring self-respect and hope to those who need a helping hand in our
communities within Tuscola County first month's rent, security and deposits.

The Tuscola Homeless Coalition Mission

The mission of the Tuscola Homeless Coalition, as a non-profit organization, is to
assist homeless individuals and families by providing funds for temporary housing and/or
payment of rent and/or mortgage payment costs to prevent homelessness in Tuscola
County. Advocacy for Affordable Housing is also a priority. Funds are provided by donations
from supporting members, fundraising events, and grants.

The Intent of Tuscola Homeless Coalition

  • To assist those who have “fallen through the cracks”.
  • To provide compassionate, nonjudgmental support, both financial and emotional.
  • To assist in creating “A Plan” that includes Tuscola Homeless Coalition funds to return
    clients to self sufficiency.

    • Our friends and neighbors.
    • Those who have gotten behind in rent/mortgage payments due to illness,
auto failure, child emergency, or other unforeseen events
    • Those who are otherwise not eligible for assistance from mainstream agencies.
    • Coordination of services with other mainstream providers, agencies, churches, etc.
    • To participate in planning and implementation of The Huron-Tuscola Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness .

 The Situations

  • Families where children are at risk due to abuse and/or neglect.  Our intervention provides
    safety and stability.

  • Families with sick children who are overwhelmed by the necessity of accessing medical care, often in Ann Arbor. Our assistance frees up funds for necessary travel and time off work.

  • Our friends and neighbors who have lost jobs and never needed or asked for help before.

  • Single Mothers/Fathers and children in near poverty due to lack of financial support through the Friend of Court.

  • Developmentally disabled individuals without adequate agency support.

  • Persons struggling to obtain SSI or other disability support.
